Gayle King has confirmed that she will remain at CBS Mornings, putting to rest any speculation about her departure

Experienced anchor dispels rumors and finalizes new agreement with CBS News

Following weeks of speculation about her potential departure or reassignment, Gayle King has now clarified her position. She is remaining with CBS News.

The seasoned journalist has secured a new agreement with the network, ensuring her continued presence at the CBS Mornings desk for the foreseeable future. The agreement resolves months of speculation regarding her next steps following the conclusion of her current contract in May.

King addressed the speculation directly.

“The reports of my departure have been greatly overstated,” she stated, countering claims that suggested she would be leaving the show.

Rather than departing, King expresses her intention to continue developing her work at the network she has always considered her home.

“CBS News has been my home for many years, and I am dedicated to our mission.” I am looking forward to my continued journey with ‘CBS Mornings.’ I remain eager for new adventures here and am prepared to embark on them. It took a moment, but we arrived at our destination. Now that we find ourselves in this moment, I am fully committed.

Her decision comes as CBS works to enhance its morning program. Recent Nielsen data indicates that CBS Mornings attracted approximately 1.78 million viewers for the week ending March 27. At the same time, NBC’s Today attracted approximately 3.2 million viewers, while ABC’s Good Morning America had an average of about 3.1 million viewers.

In light of the competitive environment, CBS leadership is confident that King continues to play a vital role in the network’s strategy.

“There is only one Gayle King.” We take great pride in the fact that she will remain a part of the CBS family. Bari Weiss, CBS News editor-in-chief, expressed enthusiasm about having her join in the morning and looks forward to collaborating on innovative projects that showcase her talents to broader audiences.

CBS executives have been in discussions about broadening King’s presence across the company’s various platforms. This may indicate the possibility of new projects or expanded responsibilities beyond the morning show.

Currently, Gayle King remains an integral part of the CBS Mornings lineup.
