China will dispatch a special envoy to the Middle East for mediation, as stated by Foreign Minister Wang Yi during discussions with his Saudi Arabian and UAE counterparts on Wednesday, according to his ministry’s announcements, amid the ongoing escalation of conflict in the region.
China values Saudi Arabia’s restraint and commitment to addressing differences through peaceful methods, Wang was reported as stating during a phone conversation with the Saudi minister, according to the Chinese ministry.
During a separate phone call with the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Wang emphasized that the “red line” of protecting civilians in conflicts must not be crossed and that non-military targets, including those related to energy, should not be attacked. He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the safety of shipping routes.
