GFF extends its congratulations to FIFA President Gianni Infantino on a decade of leadership

The President of the Gambia Football Federation, Lamin Kabba Bajo, representing the Executive Committee and the entire Gambian football community, offers heartfelt congratulations to FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the occasion of his 10th anniversary leading the global governing body of football, during which our sport has experienced remarkable growth and modernization under his guidance.

Since taking office in 2016, President Infantino has led a transformation in the development, governance, and global sharing of football. His vision of “Making Football Truly Global” has resulted in significant, life-altering initiatives for Member Associations, particularly in Africa as a whole and Gambia specifically.

Worldwide Growth

The significant rise in the number of teams participating in the World Cup from 32 to 48 allows more nations to aspire to the ultimate stage, promoting inclusivity and enhancing competitive development. Additionally, his FIFA Forward program has offered crucial financial support for the growth of all facets of football in emerging nations.

Programs such as the Talent Development Scheme and Grassroots & Amateur initiatives are uncovering the future stars across the globe. The FIFA Executive Summit and FIFA Area platforms have enhanced communication between FIFA and its members, promoting a grassroots approach to development.

The Influence on Gambian Football

In The Gambia, President Infantino’s leadership has had a significant impact. With the strategic backing of FIFA’s development programs, Gambian football has experienced a remarkable ascent on both the continental and global levels.

“The backing from FIFA has transcended mere financial assistance; it has encompassed structural and visionary elements.” “Our path to reaching the AFCON finals twice reflects the supportive atmosphere fostered by Gianni Infantino’s leadership,” stated GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo.

Investing in technical capacities, improving the domestic league structure, and emphasizing youth development have greatly broadened our talent pool. This foundation enabled our Scorpions to achieve a remarkable feat by reaching the AFCON quarter-finals in their inaugural appearance, solidifying their status among Africa’s elite teams.

In our inaugural qualification for Cameroon 2022, the Federation utilized FIFA Forward funds to cover the expenses of head coach Tom Saintfiet during his five-year tenure with The Gambia.

As we anticipate the upcoming decade, the GFF is dedicated to collaborating closely with FIFA to enhance the beauty of the game. We extend our best wishes to President Infantino for ongoing success, wisdom, and good health as he guides the world’s most cherished sport.
