Flavor Flav will organize an event in Las Vegas to commemorate the US women’s hockey team in July
Rapper Flavor Flav is set to host an event in Las Vegas this July to celebrate the U.S. women’s ice hockey team’s gold medal victory at the Milano Cortina Olympics.
The Hall of Fame rapper shared on social media platform X on Thursday that he will host a “She Got Game” weekend event from July 16 to 19 in collaboration with MGM Resorts to celebrate the women’s hockey team and other female athletes.
The 66-year-old artist has been a dedicated supporter of women’s sports and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist U.S. women’s Olympic medalists. “Many of you have inquired about ways to support and contribute to our female athletes and their celebrations.” I have set up a GoFundMe. He expressed optimism that the program could extend its influence beyond the weekend and assist those who embody the finest qualities of the U.S. on X.
Reuters requested a statement from USA Hockey about the attendance of the complete 23-member squad at the event. Nevertheless, they did not respond right away.
Flav, a founding member of the groundbreaking hip hop group Public Enemy, extended an invitation to the team for a Las Vegas trip to enjoy “a real celebration” complete with dinners and shows, sharing a formal email he claimed was sent to the players.
The invitation arrived soon after the women’s team chose not to participate in President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday.
USA Hockey respectfully declined the invitation for the women to join the men’s gold medal-winning team at the address, citing logistics and travel issues.
On Sunday evening, during a locker room call, Trump extended his invitation while congratulating the men’s team on their 2-1 overtime win against Canada. The women’s team triumphed over Canada with the same score in overtime just three days prior.
“We need to include the women’s team, you understand that,” Trump remarked to the men’s team during the call with FBI Director Kash Patel in attendance, later quipping that he would “likely be impeached” if he failed to extend the invitation.
A mention of Trump’s comments was included in the message posted by Flav, who acted as the official hype man for the U.S. bobsleigh and skeleton teams at the Milano Cortina Games and had previously backed the women’s water polo team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
