Nicki Minaj is now facing a $10 million lawsuit on her own, as her attorney has filed to withdraw from the case due to a “communication breakdown”
Nicki Minaj and her legal team are undergoing another change, as the attorney managing one of her civil cases has officially requested to withdraw from representing her.
Recent court documents reveal that Matthew Abbott has filed a motion to withdraw as Minaj’s counsel in a $10 million lawsuit initiated by Tameer Peak. The request refers to a “communication breakdown” between the parties.
Peak has previously pursued legal action against the rapper. In September 2025, he asserted that Minaj had made false accusations against him regarding criminal conduct and stalking. In August 2024, he filed a slander claim related to similar allegations.
Abbott stated in the filing that the management company he collaborates with, which Minaj recently engaged, has been unable to contact her for several months. The documents indicate that the company reached out to Minaj and her accountants “several times” but did not receive a response.
Abbott also mentioned that efforts to reach out included sending direct text messages and emails to Minaj, yet there was no response.
The recent development comes after the sudden departure of Minaj’s previous attorney, Judd Burstein, late last year. Following Burstein’s withdrawal from the case, Abbott filed a letter with the court seeking more time for Minaj to secure permanent representation.
A decision on whether to grant Abbott’s motion is still pending from the judge. The court has set a deadline for Minaj to respond to the request as the $10 million lawsuit moves forward.
The legal dispute is currently ongoing, and the matter of representation has yet to be settled.
