Lil Jon’s son tragically passed away due to an accidental drowning after ingesting mushrooms, according to the autopsy report
Authorities have confirmed new details regarding the death of Lil Jon’s son, Nathan Smith, revealing how the 27-year-old passed away earlier this month.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner determined that Nathan, who was professionally recognized as DJ Young Slade, passed away due to “drowning in the context of psilocybin use.” Authorities determined that the cause of death was accidental. Psilocybin is a psychedelic substance present in specific types of mushrooms. The autopsy revealed that the substance was present in Smith’s blood at the time of his death.
On February 6, Smith was discovered in a pond close to his home in Milton, a city located approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta. Days earlier, he had been reported missing, prompting a search that ultimately led to the recovery of his body.
In a public tribute shared following his passing, Lil Jon characterized his son as a “immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate, and warmhearted” young man. Smith established his unique presence in the music industry as DJ Young Slade, both performing and producing while remaining engaged with Atlanta’s vibrant music scene. After the announcement of his passing, an outpouring of support came from fellow artists and fans alike.
The investigation has been closed by authorities, who have indicated that there is no evidence of foul play. The family has yet to share further public details as they navigate their grief.
