Nipsey Hussle’s Legacy Cemented as Crenshaw and Slauson Officially Renamed in His Honor

The corner that influenced Nipsey Hussle’s life is set to bear his name permanently. On Saturday, February 28, at 10 a.m., Crenshaw and Slauson will be officially unveiled as Nipsey Hussle Square, solidifying the late rapper’s legacy in the very neighborhood where he developed his vision from the ground up. The sign ceremony represents a significant moment for Los Angeles and for the community that observed him transform ownership into a guiding framework.

The plaza remains in family ownership, which enhances the significance of the tribute. The Neighborhood Nip Foundation, a nonprofit established to carry on his efforts in economic empowerment and community development, also calls this place home. This space is where The Marathon brand evolved into a representation of independence and investment.

We anticipate Blacc Sam, the brother of Nipsey Hussle and CEO of The Marathon brand, to be present at the ceremony. Marqueece Harris-Dawson, President of the Los Angeles City Council, will be in attendance, accompanied by Councilmember Heather Hutt and California State Assemblymember Isaac Bryan.

This renaming is not driven by nostalgia. It concerns lastingness. For many years, Crenshaw and Slauson has been a symbol of determination, ownership, and reinvestment. The city is now formalizing that recognition.
