Lil Kim Reveals Biggie Small Removed “Kids” Tracks from Her Debut Album
The Queen Bee Contemplates Her Musical Legacy, Entertaining Young Audiences, and Her Daughter’s Perspective on Her Art
Nick Cannon and Lil Kim recently dominated the Las Vegas strip for the latest episode of Nick Cannon’s “Big Drive.”
Driving in a bespoke Lamborghini, the two legends embarked on a swift expedition through Kim’s career, her legacy, and the influential figure who guided her vision, Biggie Smalls. During the drive, a particularly insightful moment arose when Nick inquired of Kim whether she feels a sense of pride in her lyrics upon reflection, or if she still supports the sentiments expressed, acknowledging her influence on many women seeking liberation. Lil’ Kim expressed her enjoyment in having taken that step, stating that she feels she “took one for the team,” even though she was aware of the potential backlash she would encounter.
She shared an unexpected story about her debut album, “Hard Core,” disclosing that she had moments of doubt regarding its explicit direction. She informed Nick that upon completing the album, she approached Biggie and proposed the inclusion of “one or two” cleaner, family-friendly songs for the children.
Lil Kim shared that she suggested to Biggie, “Maybe we should do something more for the kids, at least one song,” but Biggie dismissed the idea, stating, “It was hardcore and that’s what they were doing.” Although Kim proposed that a more universal approach could be beneficial, Biggie firmly believed that this particular sound “would change everything,” and he was confident in that conviction. Nick concurred that “Biggie was right,” highlighting that the unfiltered energy of that project is precisely why her legacy endures unblemished.
Interestingly, the songs that Biggie safeguarded ultimately became global staples regardless. Nick noted that despite everything, tracks such as “Lady Marmalade” and “Ladies Night” found their way into major films, and “children are still familiar with them today.” Lil’ Kim shared a humorous reflection on a surreal experience performing at an amusement park in Oregon, surrounded by children. She wondered if they had intended to book her and likened the event to a “kids’ party.” Nick then inquired, as a mother now, whether she reflects on her lyrics with a different perspective. Lil’ Kim acknowledged that she “used to be scared about that,” but noted that her daughter is intelligent and is currently more interested in pop music.
The Queen Bee appears to have achieved a harmonious balance between her professional pursuits and her role as a mother, demonstrating that one can be both a trailblazer for freedom and a nurturing parent simultaneously.
