Hakimi to face trial regarding rape allegation, maintains innocence

Achraf Hakimi has announced that he is getting ready to stand trial in response to a rape allegation brought against him in France.

The defender for Paris Saint-Germain, who also plays for the Morocco national football team, has firmly refuted the allegation made by a 24-year-old woman who asserts that she was assaulted at his home in Paris in 2023.

In March 2023, prosecutors in Nanterre, situated in the western suburbs of the French capital, initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter.

Although a trial date remains unannounced, the case is anticipated to move forward within the French legal system.

In a public response, Hakimi expressed on social media that the mere presence of an accusation seems adequate to advance a case to trial.

He characterized the situation as unjust for innocent individuals, while also recognizing the gravity of authentic cases.

The defender expressed his composure and readiness to present his case in court, conveying assurance that the legal proceedings will uncover the truth.

In spite of the current legal challenges, Hakimi remains an integral part of PSG’s strategy.

The French champions are preparing to host AS Monaco in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off tie on Wednesday, and the Moroccan international was named in the club’s initial squad list released last week.

Born in Spain, Hakimi has made a name for himself as one of the leading right-backs in global football.

Since joining PSG, he has made 194 appearances and has been instrumental in the club’s domestic and European achievements, including their recent Ligue 1 and Champions League victories.

His exceptional performances garnered him recognition at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris on Monday, where he was included in the FIFPro Men’s World Team of the Year.

Hakimi played a crucial role in Morocco’s remarkable journey to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar — marking the first occasion an African nation achieved this milestone in the tournament.
