President of Indonesia expresses readiness to confront any outcomes following the US Supreme Court’s dismissal of Trump’s global tariffs
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated on Saturday that his administration is prepared to confront any eventualities following the U.S. Supreme Court’s dismissal of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.
Prabowo, accompanied by his ministers, visited Washington, D.C., this week to participate in the inaugural meeting of Trump’s Board of Peace and to hold a bilateral meeting with the U.S. president, during which they signed a trade deal that reduces tariff rates on Indonesian exports from 32% to 19%.
We are ready for any eventuality. Prabowo conveyed to reporters in a video statement, “We respect the domestic politics of the United States, and we will monitor the developments.”
On Saturday, Indonesia’s chief negotiator for U.S. tariffs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the government has asked the U.S. to uphold its previously agreed tariff exemptions for several Indonesian exports, including palm oil, coffee, and cocoa.
Minister Airlangga stated that the trade deal between Indonesia and the U.S. remains in effect despite recent developments, noting that countries with a signed trade agreement with Washington will receive different treatment.
