Berlin continues to be a contender for the 2036 Olympics, even amid concerns regarding the anniversary of the Nazi Games

Germany will continue to pursue the opportunity to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, even though its president has voiced apprehensions regarding the centenary of the Nazi-era Berlin Games, stated the nation’s Olympic sports leader, Thomas Weikert on Saturday.

The German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) is set to make a decision later this year regarding the nomination of a candidate from Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, or the Rhine-Ruhr region for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Games.

The initial date among the three may spark debate, nonetheless. “A spokesperson for President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated on Thursday that the President considers the year 2036 to be historically challenging for a German bid.”

However, DOSB President Weikert informed reporters at the German House during the Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo that all dates are still under consideration. “The IOC (International Olympic Committee) determines when the Games will be held in Europe.” “We might suggest designating 2036 for Asia or Africa,” he said. “Thus, my response is that we must prepare to host the Games (whenever they choose to proceed). This issue pertains to all three editions. “We aim to present a positive image of Germany. “This will also be relevant in 2036.

PROPAGANDA OF HITLER

German leader Adolf Hitler primarily recalls the 1936 Berlin Games for their transformation into a propaganda tool.

They are recognized for the remarkable accomplishment of Black sprinter Jesse Owens, who secured four gold medals and challenged the Nazi myth of Aryan racial superiority before the party leadership.

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder acknowledged that Steinmeier’s concerns were valid, yet he did not concur with them.

“Holding the Games in Germany on that date would provide a chance to showcase to the world, and to the younger generation in Germany, the lessons we as a democratic nation have gleaned from our history,” he remarked this week.

Los Angeles will host the next 2028 Games after Paris 2024, with the Australian city of Brisbane set to follow in 2032.

Budapest and Doha have shown interest in hosting the 2036 Games, alongside Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and India.

The IOC review is pending, so the bidding process is on hold, but the Olympics have traditionally been passed from continent to continent.
