Teddy Riley Revises His Stance After Claiming R. Kelly ‘Repented’ — Officially Cancels Collaboration with Controversial Artist

Teddy Riley is addressing the backlash following his remarks in a recent Los Angeles Times interview, in which he indicated that R. Kelly had “repented” and warranted “a second chance.”

During the interview, Riley stood up for the incarcerated singer, asserting, “Everybody deserves a second chance,” and further remarked, “He’s asking for forgiveness.” He has expressed remorse. What does that signify for everyone? He also mentioned that he “would” think about collaborating with Kelly, presenting it as an artistic decision rather than an endorsement.

Riley now states that those remarks have been misinterpreted and that he will not proceed with any collaboration.

“I would like to speak directly about the interview with the Los Angeles Times,” Riley stated in a recent announcement. “As a producer, I’ve always been enthusiastic about the potential of music and creative collaboration. The thrill has shaped my professional journey. However, I recognize that words hold significance, and I never wish for my enthusiasm for music to eclipse the genuine suffering that many individuals have faced.

He went on to say, “If my remarks caused any pain, I truly apologize.” That was never my aim. I recognize the profound effects that abuse and misconduct have had on survivors and their families. We should treat their significant experiences with thoughtfulness and dignity.

Riley emphasized that the suggested collaboration was never definitive. “The concept brought up during the interview, in relation to a prior post I shared, was merely a creative notion mentioned in a casual manner.” It is not an initiative that will progress.

“Appreciating music and acknowledging its cultural significance does not equate to endorsing negative actions,” he stated, reinforcing his dedication to “creativity, honesty, and passion for the art.”
