FIFA will decide Nigeria’s fate in the 2026 World Cup, according to the NSC chairman
FIFA is officially in charge of Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, according to Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
DR Congo fielded players that were ineligible during the African play-off final, according to an official objection filed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with the world football regulatory body.
After meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Dikko told reporters that the matter is still being reviewed.
“The World Cup is closed for us from a competitive perspective, but the legal proceedings are still going on,” he said.
The final decision will be made by FIFA’s appropriate independent committees.
Dikko said that he hoped the Super Eagles will be allowed to return for the March intercontinental playoffs.
