Senegalese fans might be imprisoned for two years
Eighteen supporters of the Lions of Teranga, who have been in detention since the AFCON 2025 final between Senegal and Morocco, are now confronted with the prospect of significant prison sentences. On Thursday, the Moroccan public prosecutor sought sentences of up to two years in prison for the fans implicated in the violence that broke out during the final.
In front of the Rabat Court of First Instance, the prosecutor asserted that the accused intentionally aimed to interfere with the orderly conduct of the match. He highlighted instances of violence that were aired live on television, emphasizing the gravity of the charges faced by the Senegalese supporters.
This recent judicial development intensifies the ongoing tensions related to a final that continues to be highly contentious weeks after Senegal’s triumph. The case is unfolding and eliciting intense responses throughout Africa, resonating deeply within the football community and among fans alike.
