Sophia Momodu’s legal team has accused Davido of harassment in the midst of the ongoing custody battle concerning their daughter, Imade
Punuka Attorneys have accused Davido of subjecting Sophia Momodu’s lawyer to online harassment following the custody hearing, calling for intervention from the NBA.
Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, representing Sophia Momodu in her child custody dispute with Afrobeats singer Davido regarding their daughter Imade, has alleged that the artist has subjected one of its partners to online harassment in the wake of recent court proceedings.
The firm’s response follows a hearing in the custody case currently before a Lagos court, where Davido openly shared an incident concerning Sophia’s lawyer, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah. The singer subsequently revealed his decision to withdraw the case, clarifying that his intention was not to pursue sole custody, but rather to create a structured co-parenting arrangement.
In discussing the situation on social media, Davido conveyed his frustration regarding the courtroom exchanges, noting that while he felt assured in his legal position, the issue turned profoundly personal when the opposing counsel, as he put it, “brought out her last card, my deceased son.” That is not acceptable!
The singer inadvertently tagged gospel artist Tosin Bee while sharing the name and social media handle of the lawyer, an action that garnered considerable online attention to her profile.
Punuka Attorneys released a statement denouncing what it characterized as provocative public remarks and efforts to intimidate legal representatives beyond the courtroom. The company asserted that the issue is firmly within the scope of judicial authority.
“We have noted various inflammatory public statements primarily orchestrated by a Nigerian Afrobeat artist on social media, aimed at our Partner, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, stemming from her professional conduct in a custody matter currently before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement reads.
“That matter is currently under judicial consideration.” The court will make its decision based solely on the evidence and the law, and no level of media commentary will influence that process or our handling of the case. In accordance with the utmost standards of professionalism, we will not be making any statements regarding the substance of the case.
“However, if legal practitioners face threats, intimidation, or harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or fulfilling their professional responsibilities to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is at risk.” The pursuit of justice relies on bold and unwavering representation.
“We urge the Nigerian Bar Association and legal practitioners worldwide to unite in a collective denunciation of this deviation and serious breach of our profession.”
The firm further described the situation as involving “threat, intimidation, or exposure to harassment” and urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to respond to what it termed an assault on professional legal conduct.
The custody matter is currently under the court’s consideration, with both parties having openly expressed their views, while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
