Nigeria and Angola have formalized a diplomatic visa waiver agreement, enhancing bilateral relations and facilitating official travel between the two nations.
Nigeria and Angola have established a new agreement to eliminate visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, representing a notable advancement in enhancing bilateral relations. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was executed at the 39th African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The agreement was signed on Sunday by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, alongside Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Téte António, during the African Union summit in the Ethiopian capital. The decision is anticipated to facilitate official travel between the two countries and enhance diplomatic relations.
During the signing ceremony, Tuggar emphasized the wider significance of the agreement, noting that improved mobility for government officials would establish a foundation for more robust economic and private sector cooperation.
“It serves as the essential basis for enhancing the relationship between Nigeria and Angola,” the minister stated.
“When government officials operate without restrictions, they enable the private sector to thrive.” We sincerely hope and pray that, in the near future, Nigerians and Angolans will be able to move freely between their countries.
Tuggar further characterized the development as “significant,” emphasizing the historical connections shared by both nations. He observed that the late former Head of State, Murtala Mohammed, once gave a significant address in Addis Ababa regarding the development of Nigeria’s political ties with Angola.
António conveyed optimism that the recently signed MoU would pave the way for more extensive visa waivers in the future, indicating a dedication from both governments to enhance collaboration beyond diplomatic realms.
The agreement propels the ongoing initiatives of both African nations to enhance political, economic, and regional partnerships within the context of continental integration.
