Milano Games faces a condom crisis this Valentine’s Day

Athletes at the Milano Cortina Games appear to have fully embraced Valentine’s week, showcasing their signature Olympic fervor as they swiftly deplete their free condom supply, leaving dispensers empty ahead of the big day.

Organisers distributed approximately 10,000 prophylactics throughout the city and mountain accommodation sites, maintaining a long-standing Olympic tradition that encourages safe relationships among predominantly young, healthy, and energetic competitors residing in close proximity.

By Saturday, the stock had run out; however, with just over a week left in the sporting bonanza, Milan has been added to a long list of Games where demand has comfortably outstripped supply, an almost routine sub-plot of the Olympics.

“This clearly indicates that Valentine’s Day is in full swing at the village,” said International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams during a press conference on Saturday. “A total of ten thousand have been utilized – 2,800 athletes – you can do the math, as they say.”

“According to rule 62 of the Olympic Charter, we are required to have a condoms story.” “Faster, higher, stronger, together,” Adams quipped.

Organisers of Milano Cortina later acknowledged that stocks had been exhausted due to “higher-than-anticipated demand,” but assured that they were working on re-stocking. “Additional supplies are being delivered and will be distributed across all Villages between today and Monday,” they stated. “They will be continuously replenished until the end of the Games to ensure ongoing availability.”

Although athletes receive complimentary condoms at every Games, the frenzy in Milan has caught even the athletes off guard. “I just saw that this morning.”
Mialitiana Clerc, an alpine skier from Madagascar, stated that her accommodation was completely empty.

“At the entrance of each building where we were staying, there were numerous boxes, and every day, everything had disappeared from the box,” said Clerc. “I am aware that many individuals are utilizing condoms or sharing them with friends outside of the Olympics, as they serve as a unique gift.”

Although medals continue to symbolize success, the vacant dispensers subtly indicate that the social aspect of the Games is flourishing too.
