Defamation Trial Between Trump and BBC Scheduled for February 2027 Within the state of Florida
Trump’s defamation lawsuit against the BBC regarding a Panorama edit is scheduled for trial in Miami in February 2027.
Court documents reveal that US President Donald Trump’s multi-billion-dollar defamation lawsuit against the BBC is set to go to trial in February 2027. The trial, scheduled to occur in Miami, is expected to span two weeks.
Trump is filing a lawsuit regarding a Panorama episode that he claims manipulated his speech, making it seem as though he directly incited the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. His legal team has characterized the edit as “false and defamatory,” pursuing compensation for the purported harm.
The BBC has issued an apology for the edit in question but has dismissed Trump’s claims for compensation, asserting that there is no foundation for a defamation or trade practices case. The corporation intends to submit a motion to dismiss by 17 March 2026, contending that the Florida court lacks personal jurisdiction, the venue is inappropriate, and Trump has “failed to state a claim.”
A judge in Florida has recently rejected the BBC’s request to postpone discovery, labeling the motion as “premature.” This decision means that both parties will proceed with the exchange of pertinent documents and evidence in preparation for the trial.
A spokesperson for the BBC stated: “As we have previously indicated, we will be defending this case.” We will refrain from providing additional comments regarding the ongoing legal proceedings.
