Joy Reid Expresses Strong Criticism of Nicki Minaj, Labeling Her a “House Pet” for the MAGA Movement

The MS NOW Host Criticizes The Rapper For Offering “Blackface” To The Trump Administration In Return For Cultural Credibility

Joy Reid is expressing her views candidly regarding Nicki Minaj’s recent shift in political stance.

In a recent appearance on The Don Lemon Show, the seasoned journalist offered a sharp critique of the rapper’s association with Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. Reid charged the Republican party with employing Minaj as a “house pet” to lend an air of “blackface” and credibility to their agenda.

Reid suggests that the support for the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper is not centered on her music or opinions, but instead reflects a pressing desire for the GOP to connect with Black “cultural cool.”

Reid articulated that the right wing is effectively restraining Minaj, as they pursue the influence that Black creators inherently contribute. “The reason they want her on a leash as their house pet cuddled at Donald Trump’s feet… is because they require, R-E-Q-U-I-R-E Black people to provide them with ‘cultural cool,’” Reid stated. She contended that although Trump and his team might embrace the endorsement, they would probably be “horrified” if they truly took the time to engage with the lyrical content of her songs.

Reid made several personal remarks about Nicki’s legacy and character, drawing unfavorable comparisons to other industry giants. “She will never reach the level of Rihanna.” She will never achieve a brand comparable to Rihanna’s. Reid asserted that she will never reach the level of Beyoncé, noting that Minaj is a “40-some year-old” artist who appears indifferent to the issues facing the Black community and immigrants, despite her own background as an undocumented immigrant from Trinidad.

Reid also indicated that the rapper has definitively lost the “cool” that the GOP is attempting to acquire. She cautioned that the alliance is purely transactional and that the MAGA crowd will shift their focus as soon as they discover a newer Black face to represent them. Nikki is not worth much and she has nothing to say. And a hundred little Barbs can’t tell me anything. “If you’re upset about it, then be upset about it,” Reid stated boldly.

She wrapped up by emphasizing her belief that the strategy is unlikely to succeed in the long term, despite the right’s ongoing search for Black figures to serve as a shield for their movement.
