Cole Palmer Sets Chelsea Hat Trick Record, Becomes First Premier League Player to Score Three First-Half Trebles
Cole Palmer makes history as the first player to score three first-half hat tricks, simultaneously setting a new record for Chelsea’s all-time hat tricks.
Cole Palmer surpassed several Chelsea legends on Saturday by netting his fourth hat trick for the team, establishing a new club record in his side’s 3-1 victory over Wolves.
Tolu Arokodare netted a consolation goal for the league’s bottom team in the second half, yet it fell short as Palmer’s first-half goals were more than sufficient for Liam Rosenior’s side.
Palmer’s first-half treble against Wolves marked his fourth for the club in the Premier League within just three years. This achievement surpassed the records of Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, Didier Drogba, and Frank Lampard, each of whom scored three during their extensive careers in west London.
Palmer scored twice from the spot before a skillfully executed finish inside the box in the 38th minute secured the hat trick, the win on the day, and the record for the former Manchester City forward.
It turned out to be an unforgettable afternoon for Palmer, whose hat trick became Chelsea’s third fastest in Premier League history, achieved in just 38 minutes. He holds the record for the fastest time at 29 minutes against Everton and the second fastest at 31 minutes against Brighton.
Palmer made history as the first player in Premier League history to achieve three first-half hat tricks.
Furthermore, Palmer surpassed John Terry (41) to claim second place for the most goals scored by English players for Chelsea in the Premier League (44), now pursuing Lampard, who holds an impressive total of 147.
Palmer made his move to Chelsea from Man City in 2023, achieving an impressive tally of 44 goals in 84 appearances as he emerged as the standout player at Stamford Bridge.
Recent reports from west London suggest that Palmer is considering a return to Manchester due to feelings of homesickness in the capital. However, boss Liam Rosenior has since downplayed these claims.
Following the Wolves victory, Rosenior praised his standout forward, describing the hat trick hero as “unstoppable” after an afternoon of record-breaking performance.
“When he’s at his best and in good spirits, he’s [Palmer] a remarkable footballer,” Rosenior stated.
“In a club with such high demands and scrutiny, which I’m beginning to understand, it’s essential to tune out the distractions and keep in mind the quality of your own play.”
“We recognize the caliber of player he is.” He has participated in numerous football matches over the past year with little time for rest. At his peak, he is a force to be reckoned with. I am thrilled to be collaborating with him.
“He enjoys being here.” It is hoped that he can truly relish his football from now until the season concludes.
