Ethiopian Airlines has resumed flights to the Tigray region, according to an official announcement
Ethiopian Airlines has restarted flights to the northern Tigray region, an airline official announced on Tuesday, just days after halting them due to clashes between regional and national forces that had sparked concerns of renewed conflict.
The national army of Ethiopia engaged in combat with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front for a duration of two years, concluding in late 2022. Researchers indicate that this conflict resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands due to direct violence, the breakdown of healthcare systems, and famine.
Last week, clashes erupted in the contested region of western Tigray, as reported by diplomatic and government sources.
On Saturday, a drone strike in Tigray resulted in one fatality and left another individual injured, according to a senior official from Tigray and a humanitarian worker.
The Tigray war concluded with a peace agreement in November 2022; however, disputes have persisted regarding various matters, such as the contested territories in western Tigray and the postponed disarmament of Tigray forces.
