TP Mazembe has named Slimane Raho as the new head coach

TP Mazembe, the prominent football club from Congo, has appointed Franco-Algerian Slimane Raho as their new head coach, securing his services with a contract that extends until the conclusion of the current season.

The 51-year-old takes over from Lamine Mamadou Ndiaye, concluding the club’s recent coaching changes and establishing a new direction for the Ravens’ campaign.

Mazembe officially announced Raho’s appointment on Friday, January 30, characterizing him as a reliable and well-known presence within the club.

Raho held the position of assistant coach during the 2021–2022 season, collaborating with Franck Dumas—a period that deepened his bond with the players and the club management.

The club stated: “TP Mazembe is pleased to announce the appointment of Slimane Raho as head coach of the Ravens’ first team.”

He was selected to take over from Lamine Mamadou Ndiaye, ushering in fresh aspirations and a dedication to enhanced performance.

Slimane Raho is highly regarded for his interpersonal and technical skills, as well as his talent for nurturing exceptional individuals.

Raho presents a remarkable coaching background from North Africa.

A former Algerian international defender who played for JS Kabylie and ES Sétif, he moved into management following his playing days, gaining recognition as a tactical strategist and a respected mentor.

In his role as Dumas’ assistant, he played a key part in JS Kabylie’s achievement of finishing as runners-up in the Algerian league in 2019 and was instrumental in CR Belouizdad’s league victory in 2020.

The transition at Mazembe was characterized by a seamless and professional approach.

Raho arrived in Lubumbashi on Friday, where he engaged with the board, outgoing staff, and team captains.

An agreeable resolution was achieved with Ndiaye, who took part in a formal handover, providing his successor with insights on squad details and ongoing projects to maintain continuity.

Training under Raho will resume on Saturday at the Frédéric Kibassa-Maliba Stadium, as TP Mazembe enters the next phase of their season with a familiar figure taking on renewed responsibilities.
