Shaunie Henderson declares that “Basketball Wives” is officially ending after 12 seasons

The Franchise Creator is poised to conclude the final chapter of the VH1 staple as she embarks on a new season centered on personal and professional growth.

The journey for the ladies of VH1 is reaching its conclusion, marked by memorable moments such as drink throwing and tableside confrontations, alongside profound discussions about sisterhood. Shaunie Henderson, the driving force behind “Basketball Wives,” officially announced on Thursday that the long-running reality series will not be making a return to television. After 12 seasons of documenting the intense lives of women in the professional sports arena, Henderson is prepared to conclude this chapter for good.

Leaving a show that shaped a decade of television was not a hasty choice; it was a thoughtful consideration of Shaunie’s current life circumstances.

“This is simply referred to as growth and, you know, progressing,” she articulated in a video message shared on her Instagram. In a decisive announcement, she declared, “I’m announcing today that ‘Basketball Wives‘ will not be returning.”

The show’s legacy is significant, having premiered in 2010 and transformed into a substantial cultural phenomenon. The show offered a stage for personalities such as Evelyn Lozada, Jackie Christie, Malaysia Pargo, and Jennifer Williams to express their realities and create their own legacies. Reflecting on the 16-year journey, Shaunie remarked, “What started as a vision to share my story and those of women like me evolved into a cultural movement that generated opportunities, ignited conversations, and truly amplified voices that needed to be heard.” She recognized that the series has been the most “defining part” of her entire professional journey.

Prior to embarking on her next “season,” Henderson took the time to express her gratitude to those who supported the show’s success. She expressed her appreciation to the networks and production teams at VH1, BET, Truly Original, and Shed Media. Nonetheless, her deepest gratitude was directed towards the cast members who welcomed the cameras into their homes and lives.

“Above all, I am grateful to the women who entrusted me with their stories, as well as to the talented creatives both in front of and behind the camera who contributed to realizing this vision,” she expressed.

As fans grieve the conclusion of a significant chapter, Shaunie is focused on the future. She playfully mentioned that she is moving into a new space that more closely reflects who she has become since the show first aired. The legendary journey of Basketball Wives has come to a close, yet it appears that Shaunie is poised to triumph in an entirely new arena.
