“I’m Going To Continue To Be The Guy I’ve Been”, in response to accusations of felony assault
The Patriots receiver, who is facing a legal battle only days before the AFC championship game, speaks out in the locker room.
On Friday, January 2, 2026, the New England Patriots’ locker room atmosphere changed as Stefon Diggs took the podium for the first time since his legal issues were made public.
The 32-year-old NFL player, who has played a significant role in the team’s postseason run, didn’t back down from the cameras, but he was adamant about maintaining his attention on the field until the “life stuff” is played out in court. Diggs looked serious as he said that he and his family had been going through a “very emotional time” lately.
Diggs acknowledged his recent lack of availability to the media and clarified that he is handling the pressure of the situation with the support of his teammates. He stressed his dedication to the game and his circle, but he was unable to respond to the particular allegations made by his former employee because the matter is still pending.
“I’m going to stay the same person I have been. Aim to have a successful season. Everybody has life and family issues to contend with. It’s challenging to play football. You unite, rely on your brothers, and rely on the individuals you spend the most time with.
Diggs’ live-in personal chef claims that a disagreement about money escalated into physical altercation at his Dedham home on December 2.
According to the police report, the woman says Diggs hit her and tried to strangle her while they were fighting over unpaid season-long earnings.
In addition to a misdemeanor allegation of assault and battery, Diggs is officially facing a felony offense of strangling or suffocation.
Even though these are serious charges, the Patriots have said in public that “we support Stefon,” and his attorney, David Meier, has termed the accusations “completely false.” “Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations,” Meier said. They were never looked into since they never happened, and they are unsupported and uncorroborated. The charges are the direct outcome of a financial dispute between the employee and the employer that was not satisfactorily handled, thus the timing and reason behind them are very evident. Stefon is eager to prove the truth in a legal proceeding.
The AFC powerhouse is in the midst of a very rigorous legal process. Diggs’ arraignment is set for January 23, 2026, exactly two days prior to the AFC Championship Game.
