Hakimi may finally face Zambia in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

Morocco coach Walid Regragui has announced that captain Achraf Hakimi is ready to take on Zambia in their final Group A match at the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, following two previous setbacks in the tournament.

Hakimi was named Africa’s best player at the Confederation of African Football awards last month, yet he attended the ceremony in Rabat on crutches, raising concerns about his recovery ahead of the finals.

The right-back from Paris St Germain expressed that he felt prepared to participate just before the tournament began, yet he has not been utilized in host Morocco’s first two matches, which included a 2-0 win against Comoros and a 1-1 tie with Mali.

On Sunday, Regragui announced that the player is now available and expressed gratitude to PSG for facilitating the player’s recovery and allowing an early release to join the national team and collaborate with their medical staff.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Paris St Germain.” “If Hakimi is back with us today, it’s due to their efforts,” Regragui stated.

“No club in the world would let a player go just 15 days before the Africa Cup of Nations begins.”

Morocco requires a victory against Zambia to secure their position at the top of Group B, having last claimed the Cup of Nations trophy in 1976.
