Argentina’s coach promises to replicate the winning recipe following the World Cup group draw
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni stated that the world champions will adhere to the same successful strategy that brought them victory at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, following the announcement of their group opponents for next year’s global tournament on Friday.
The Albiceleste found themselves in Group J alongside Algeria, Austria, and Jordan, a matchup that supporters in Buenos Aires deemed advantageous. However, Scaloni cautioned that no match would come without its challenges.
“We will give our all and aim to replicate our performance from the last World Cup, ensuring that we leave no ball unchallenged,” stated Scaloni, who arrived at the draw ceremony holding the trophy as the coach of the reigning champions.
Argentina encounters a challenging route to the final, with a last-32 matchup looming against a team from Group H, which features formidable opponents like Spain and Uruguay, along with Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde.
In 2022, we assert that there is no straightforward adversary. It is essential to engage in the games. If that is the case, then the crossover for group (H) is challenging. “First, we need to get through, and then we’ll see,” Scaloni stated.
The coach remarked that Algeria is “a good team with great players” and commended their coach Vladimir Petkovic, who was his former head coach at the Italian club Lazio.
He commended Austria for their impressive qualifying round, as the Austrians topped their group, while the debutants Jordan remained an enigma – although Scaloni emphasized that Argentina would “not take anything for granted.”
The memory of Argentina’s surprising 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in Qatar undoubtedly remains fresh. “We possess that experience; we must approach the match,” Scaloni remarked while addressing Jordan.
Back home, fans appeared satisfied with their team’s draw.
“It appears to me that it is advantageous, wouldn’t you agree?” Patricio Neira, a 45-year-old educator, shared with Reuters TV.
“There are no major powers, no ‘bogeyman’ … and there isn’t a European team that stands out as one of the strong contenders.” I believe it’s beneficial, particularly for the initial games.
Argentina triumphed over France 4-2 in a penalty shootout following an exhilarating 3-3 draw, securing the victory in the 2022 World Cup.
