Samuel Eto’o Overcomes Opposition to Win a Second Term as Cameroon Football Chief
Eto’o achieves unanimous re-election amidst protests from critics who cite allegations of mismanagement and Cameroon’s inability to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Samuel Eto’o has been re-elected unopposed for a second term as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Fecafoot, on Saturday.
His renewed mandate was affirmed during a General Assembly convened in the central region, where he garnered 85 out of 85 votes.
The education ministry of the country, responsible for the sports portfolio, expressed opposition to the exercise and requested the cancellation of the Assembly.
Demonstrations took place outside the venue, where opponents accused Eto’o of misconduct.
Critics have accused the former Barcelona forward of mismanaging Cameroonian football, suggesting that his actions have led to a decline in the national team’s performance. Frustration grew as the Indomitable Lions missed the opportunity to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
In spite of the protests and institutional resistance, Eto’o maintains complete authority over Fecafoot as he embarks on his second term.
