We choose Rwanda for a variety of reasons, according to Al Hilal coach
Laurenţiu Reghecampf, the head coach of Al Hilal, has stated that the Sudanese team was persuaded to enter the Rwanda Premier League due to a number of reasons, including Rwanda’s safety and security.
His remarks followed Wednesday, November 26’s 0–0 tie between Al Hilal and Police FC at Kigali Pele Stadium. It was their first game since the club and Al-Merreikh were given permission by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to play in the Rwandan league despite the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan.
For intense training sessions, fierce competition, and group stage preparation for the CAF Champions League, Rwanda offers the ideal setting, according to Reghecampf.
In a post-game interview, he told reporters, “We came to Rwanda because we believe the country has a competitive league where we can be challenged by a number of teams here and we believe it will help us to compete well in the CAF Champions’ League group stages.”
When our team considered safety, Rwanda seemed like a better option. We’ve been here for a few days, and the locals are welcoming and encouraging, so we think we’re in a good position.
The team now has “everything we asked for,” according to the Romanian strategist, and everyone there feels inspired and at ease in Rwanda.
“This place makes the players feel great. We’ve trained a lot in Rwanda and faced fierce competition to help my players get better. I’ve got everything I wanted now,” he continued.
The CAF Champions League matchup between Al Hilal and St-Eloi Lupopo is scheduled for November 30 at Lubumbashi, DR Congo.
On November 21, in Kigali, they defeated MC Alger 2-1 to start their group-stage campaign.
