Touré is not inducted into the PL Hall of Fame
Yaya Touré, a former midfielder for Manchester City and Côte d’Ivoire, just missed being elected into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
Eden Hazard, a former Chelsea winger, and Gary Neville, a right-back for Manchester United, were named the league’s 2025 inductees on Wednesday.
Only two new members were admitted to the esteemed club this year out of a 15-member shortlist, which included Touré, despite prior years having more inductees.
According to the Premier League website, “A shortlist of 15 nominees was announced on Premier League digital channels in September,” which explains the selection process for the inductees. Together with the already inducted members of the Premier League Hall of Fame, fans from all around the world cast their votes for two former players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
To be on the shortlist, players must meet a number of requirements, the most important of which is having at least 250 Premier League appearances, unless they have made 200 or more for a single club, been chosen for any of the 20-Year Anniversary or Premier League Team of the Decade teams, won a Premier League Golden Boot or Golden Glove or been named Player of the Season, won three Premier League titles, scored 100 Premier League goals, or, if a goalie, recorded 100 Premier League clean sheets.
With 230 Premier League appearances for Manchester City, three Premier League titles, and 94 goal contributions, the Ivorian midfield master definitely checks all the requirements. In 2011–12 and 2013–14, he was also named to the PFA Team of the Year.
After playing a significant role in Barcelona’s victory, Touré moved to Manchester in July 2010 and quickly established himself as a vital member of his new team. After nine seasons as a Citizen, he left City at the beginning of the 2018–19 campaign.
Toure attempted 15,745 passes and completed 13,995 during his time at City.
Along with Frank Lampard, he is one of just two central midfielders in the history of the league to score 20 goals in a single Premier League season. He also won his second league title in 2013–14.
