Trump claims that the US and China are “going to have a good deal” ahead of the Xi meeting

US President Donald Trump expresses optimism for a “good deal for both” nations as he readies for his meeting with China’s Xi Jinping.

US President Donald Trump has conveyed a positive outlook regarding the possibility of achieving a mutually advantageous trade agreement with China as he readies for his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea.

Addressing a gathering of business leaders at the summit, Trump expressed his belief that the US was “going to have a deal” with China, asserting that it would be “a good deal for both.”

The eagerly awaited meeting between Trump and Xi, set for Thursday, takes place against the backdrop of continuing efforts to alleviate trade tensions between the two largest economies globally.

Trump engaged in discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who faces pressure to finalize a pending trade agreement with Washington. During his visit, Trump was greeted with an extravagant welcome in Seoul, where President Lee presented him with the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, the nation’s highest honor, in acknowledgment of his “contribution to peace on the Korean peninsula.”

Trump’s arrival in South Korea came at a time of heightened tensions in the region, following North Korea’s recent missile tests. He recognized the progress and showed interest in meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, although he subsequently clarified that they were unable to “work out a timing.”

The meetings in Seoul form a crucial aspect of Trump’s broader diplomatic journey through Asia, as Washington aims to enhance economic connections and security collaboration throughout the region.
