11 passengers are killed in a tourist plane disaster in Kenya

Ten European tourists and a local pilot were died in a plane crash close to Kenya’s coast, according to officials.

When the plane crashed at 05:30 local time (02:30 GMT), it was its route from the well-known beach resort of Diani to an airstrip in the renowned Maasai Mara game park, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

The crash claimed the lives of eight Hungarians, two Germans, and a Kenyan pilot, according to Mombasa Air Safari.

In a statement, it also said, “At this time, our main focus is on giving the impacted families all the support they can.”

Local media have released pictures of the burning airliner and the wreckage at the accident scene.

The jet flew out of Diani and crashed some 10km (six miles) from Kwale town, Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde informed the BBC.

It was traveling to the Maasai Mara’s Kichwa Tembo, a renowned vacation spot known for its wildlife.

Orinde stated, “The passengers were all tourists.”

Although he noted that investigations were still ongoing, he speculated that inclement weather might have been the reason of the crash.

“The weather isn’t great here right now. It is raining and somewhat hazy because it is early in the morning, but we cannot anticipate [the results],” Orinde stated.

A light aircraft operated by the medical organization Amref crashed outside of Nairobi in August, killing six persons and wounding two more.
