It’s official: The Simpsons will be back on Big-Screen in 2027
Producers have formally confirmed a sequel to The Simpsons Movie, which will be released on July 23, 2027, decades after the first feature picture.
Twenty years have passed since The Simpsons Movie debuted in theaters in 2007, and fans have been anxiously awaiting news of a sequel.
That wait is now over, as the franchise will be making a second appearance in theaters.
Details of the plot are still being kept secret.
The movie’s poster featured Dan Castellaneta’s character Homer Simpson holding pink doughnuts dusted with number two confetti, along with the caption, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
Yeardley Smith, who plays Lisa Simpson’s voice, previously stated that she hoped another film will be produced, but that it would be a Christmas movie.
“I do really believe that there will be a number two, and my pitch is that it should be a Christmas movie, so that it has annual relevance for the rest of time,” the 61-year-old actress, who has been the voice of the main character on the animated sitcom since 1989, told The Movie Dweeb.
Her proposal coincidentally coincided with producer Al Jean’s plan for the show’s last episode.
“In order to make the entire series a continuous loop, I mentioned that there would be an ending where the final episode would return to the Christmas pageant from the first episode,” he added.
“If I had to, I would end it that way.”
In The Simpsons Movie, Homer Simpson contaminated Springfield’s water supply, the EPA confined him in a huge dome, and the Simpsons were declared wanted.
The movie made over $500 million (£390 million) at the box office, proving to be a major success.
The program isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, Yeardley assured.
“At the very least, Disney, who purchased Fox, with the exception of Fox News and Fox Sports, did so in part because of The Simpsons,” she stated. “We had a pickup for 33 and 34, but I feel like we would be given a pretty big heads-up for the last season.”
Additionally, I believe they would want to take advantage of the fact that it was the final season and earn a ton of money from advertising.
There will always be “appetite” for The Simpsons, according to the French celebrity.
Yeardley went on to say: “Given the amount of content streaming services require… You’re f***** if someone will actually binge-watch the entire series in a single weekend! How can you feed that ravenous hunger? It’s a big deal.
Sunday, September 28, marked the 37th season of the main animated series’ return to television. Fox has commissioned four seasons of the current series.
