The reasons behind the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag are revealed by Leverkuen

Erik ten Hag’s journey with Bayer Leverkusen came to an end very immediately. The Dutch coach, who was hired in May to replace Xabi Alonso, was fired after just two Bundesliga games. A dismal start to the league and a bad preseason, which culminated in a 5-1 thumping of Flamengo’s youth team, soon persuaded the German team to alter their strategy.

The former manager of Manchester United expressed his shock, calling the choice “unprecedented” and emphasizing the need for faith and patience in rebuilding a club following significant departures. Ten Hag said that he had begun his position with conviction but lamented that Leverkusen’s administration had never allowed him the latitude to carry out his plan. His remarks brought to light a widening gap with the club’s management.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes explained the dismissal by acknowledging that there had been some skepticism before to the draw with Werder Bremen. He clarified that in order to prevent “heading in the wrong direction,” the club took action during the international break.

Even while Rolfes admitted that employing Ten Hag might have been a mistake, he emphasized that it would have been worse to keep a failing arrangement going. A frank decision that highlights Leverkusen’s resolve to maintain its goals.
