Cardi B Was Exonerated of Battery and Assault
The WAP hitmaker, whose actual name is Belcalis Almanzar, was ruled not guilty in the civil complaint that security guard Emani Ellis filed against her in 2020 because of an alleged incident that happened two years earlier.
Cardi expressed gratitude to her attorneys, supporters, jurors, and “everyone at home supporting me” following the reading of the decision in court on Tuesday.
“This time around, I’m going to be nice,” she threatened at a press conference following the verdict’s reading. This is unacceptable, so I will countersuit the next person who tries to file a baseless case against me and make you pay.
The 32-year-old musician emphasized her innocence once more.
“That woman was not touched by me,” she stated.
In her lawsuit, Emani had claimed that Cardi, who is the mother of Kulture, 7, Wave, 3, and 11-month-old Blossom with her ex-husband Offset, had spit on her face, yelled racist epithets, and cut her face with her fingernail.
In addition, she claimed that the rapper, who was four months pregnant at the time, had “used her celebrity status” to get her fired from her job. She also filed a lawsuit after the incident, alleging carelessness, false imprisonment, assault and battery, and intentional infliction of mental distress.
Notwithstanding her demand for $24 million in damages, the security guard maintained that the matter was “never about the money.”
Following the verdict, she told reporters, “What she did to me was real, never about the money, but more importantly, it’s about the accountability that matters.”
“I hold the same position. She attacked and abused me, and I don’t want her to escape punishment. I don’t want anyone to forget about it.
Throughout the trial, Emani’s attorney stated that she was simply seeking reimbursement for her medical bills and $250,000, not millions of dollars.
The Drip singer rejected the claims and said the woman started the fight by trying to record her while following her down the doctor’s office hallway.
They were standing “chest to chest,” when Cardi exclaimed, “B****, get the f*** out of my face,” despite her insistence that the argument had never become violent.
