Ederson Leaves Man City After Eight Trophy-Laden Years to Join Fenerbahce
Ederson left Man City to join Fenerbahce after eight years of winning numerous national and international awards.
After eight trophy-filled years at Manchester City, Brazilian goalie Ederson has completed a permanent move to Fenerbahce in Turkey, the Premier League team acknowledged on Tuesday.
Following his move from Portuguese team Benfica to City in 2017, Ederson has won 18 trophies, including six Premier League crowns and a Champions League triumph. In addition, the 32-year-old won the Premier League Golden Glove award three times while playing for City.
Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain, an Italian goalkeeper, is anticipated to take his place at Manchester City.
In a statement, City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana said: “He has solidified his legacy at Manchester City, and we all wish him well in the next phase of his career.” And he departs knowing that this football team will always welcome him.
The transfer cost was estimated by British media to be approximately £12 million ($16.21 million).
“The transfer of Ederson Santana de Moraes has been agreed upon with Manchester City and the club,” Fenerbahce continued. Starting in 2025–2026, the player will earn a net of 11 million euros ($12.88 million) year. The club kept the length of the deal a secret.
Since joining the Etihad for €40 million ($46.83 million), Ederson, who is in the last year of his contract, has been City’s first-choice goalkeeper, recording 372 appearances with 168 clean sheets.
Ederson reflected on his time at City, saying: “I am honored to have worn the shirt so many times, and I leave Manchester City incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.” We have dominated the Premier League and taken over Europe under Pep. Eight years ago, I came to Manchester full of hope, but I never would have imagined that we would have such a wonderful time together. The most memorable period of my life has been playing for City, and I will always be a supporter of this unique team.
