MTV is bringing back music videos in anticipation of the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards
The network will broadcast more than 700 music videos—some of which haven’t been seen in over ten years—on MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic, and Pluto TV’s MTV Biggest Pop from September 1 to September 7.
Videos from various decades and genres are categorized into themed groups, such as Most VMA Victories, Best of the 1980s, Best Celebrity Cameos, and Craziest Videos of All Time.
As part of this celebration of the history of music videos, MTV also gave Billboard information about the artists who had the most featured videos. With 21 clips, Britney Spears is in the lead, followed by Michael Jackson (12), Beyoncé (18), Madonna (17), and Eminem (15). The Backstreet Boys (11). With nine videos apiece, Justin Timberlake, NSYNC, and Mariah Carey complete the list.
Along with celebrity commentary from Paris Hilton, Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Bon Jovi, and others, fans may anticipate “interstitials.”
Lady Gaga has 12 nominations, the most of any artist at this year’s VMAs.
Michael Jackson will present the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to Mariah Carey.
To accept the gold, the pop icon will make his first appearance on the awards ceremony stage in two decades.
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award is a recognition for “profound impact” and “outstanding contributions” to popular culture and music videos.
After Michael Jackson, the late King of Pop, won the Video Vanguard Award in 1991, the gong was given a new name.
The VMAs will air live on September 7 from New York’s UBS Arena.
