Denzel Washington Gives Spike Lee A Lot Of Credit For His Guidance On “Highest 2 Lowest”
Spike Lee, according to Denzel Washington, is the ideal guy to narrate a “New York story.”
Denzel has stated that he enjoyed working with Spike again after the 70-year-old actor and the 68-year-old Spike reunited to make the new criminal thriller movie, Highest 2 Lowest.
“I knew we had great success together – our last time out on Inside Man, and it was just my gut,” the Hollywood legend, who previously collaborated with Spike on Malcolm X and Inside Man, told Collider. It was a clever idea, but I’m not sure how or whose it was in the first place. Additionally, it was a New York narrative, and Spike Lee is the person I trust the most to convey a New York story.
In the new film, Denzel co-stars with Ice Spice, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and ASAP Rocky.
The veteran actor relished getting back together with his friend from show business, who he had previously collaborated with on the 2004 political thriller The Manchurian Candidate.
When asked why it took them so long to collaborate once more, Denzel said, “Life.” Life gets in the way. You know, busy, bills to pay, etc.
Denzel said that Spike’s success has been mostly attributed to his aptitude for acting.
“When I got behind the camera, the first thing I learned was to get the best actors and let them do what they do,” he revealed.
Spike is aware of it. In this instance, I suppose, he has surrounded me with the best actors since I gave him the script. He went and got Wendell Pierce and Jeffrey Wright, you know.
A$AP Rocky, meanwhile, has acknowledged that collaborating with Denzel was a “dream come true.”
The 36-year-old rapper said that he is “always gonna be a student and a fan of certain people,” and that he has enjoyed working with the Hollywood legend.
Rocky said, “It was like a f****** dream come true,” in an interview with Variety. But believe me when I say that it was hard not to fan the f*** out during the entire f****** length.
“Dude, it was crazy—it’s f****** Denzel.” I don’t care how successful I am: I will always be a student and a fan of some individuals, and I will always buy them flowers. I will always be able to state that I had to maintain my cool in order to avoid fanning out.
“Malcolm X, Michael Jackson: Moonwalker, and Juice were the first films that I truly enjoyed.” I was watching Malcolm X when I first saw him.
