Michael Jackson’s iconic glittery sock sells over $8000 at auction

The renowned performer’s one dazzling sock from a 1997 performance in France sold for over $8,000 at auction, according to sources from a French auction house.

Originally left behind after the show, the iconic sock was found by a technician close to the pop star’s dressing area after his performance in Nîmes during his HIStory World Tour. 

This sock was part of the distinctive outfit that Jackson wore during his concerts, which included white sports socks with rhinestones that glittered in the sun, Aurore Illy, the auctioneer in charge, said AFP.

The rhinestones have become yellow with age, and the off-white sock is now discolored. For loyal admirers, it is nevertheless a highly sought-after piece of memorabilia in spite of these wear indicators. At first, its estimated value ranged from 3,000 to 4,000 euros ($3,400 to $4,500).

The identical rhinestone glove that Jackson wore when he initially performed the renowned “moonwalk” in 1983 was purchased by a Macau casino resort in 2009 for an astounding $350,000. In 2023, a hat he wore during that same period also brought over $80,000 at an auction in Paris.
