The actor Alon Aboutboul of “Snowfall” and “London Has Fallen” passes away unexpectedly in Tel Aviv

Alon Aboutboul, a well-known Israeli actor who gained international recognition for his parts in high-profile Hollywood productions, passed away at the age of 60.

Aboutboul abruptly collapsed on Tuesday morning while at HaBonim Beach, which is close to Tel Aviv, according to Israeli media. Attempts to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him failed despite emergency measures.

Aboutboul was born in Kiryat Ata on May 28, 1965, and went on to have a successful career in both Israeli and foreign cinema. He starred in more than 100 motion pictures and television shows before becoming well-known for his role in Two Fingers from Sidon, which debuted at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival.

Shortly after, he had his breakthrough internationally with a part in Rambo III (1988). Hollywood quickly took note, and in 2008, Ridley Scott cast Aboutboul in Body of Lies, where he costarred with Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. His role as Russian physicist Dr. Leonid Pavel in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 may have been his most well-known performance to date.

In London Has Fallen (2016), he played the terrifying character of Aamir Barkawi, a vicious arms merchant who turned terrorist.

On television, Aboutboul was equally praised. He played Israeli narcotics trafficker Avi Drexler in 25 episodes of the FX drama Snowfall, which was a noteworthy run for him. In 2017, he also starred in the highly regarded Twin Peaks reboot.

During an interview a few days prior to his death, Aboutboul talked about a recent movie project and his unwavering love for performing, which persisted even after decades in the business.

Shir Bilia, his wife, and their four kids survive him.
