Teenagers Under 13 Who Use Smartphones Run the Risk of Having Poor Mental Health as Adults

Children who get smartphones before the age of thirteen run the chance of experiencing mental health issues as young adults.

A research involving more than 100,000 children between the ages of 18 and 24 was published on Sunday in the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities.

Inquiries about a variety of mental health symptoms and when the group received a smartphone were made.

Researchers discovered that having a smartphone before the age of 13 was associated with poorer mental health, suicidal ideation, and violence.

Technology companies and parents have been urged to take “urgent” action and implement limits to prevent children under the age of 13 from using cellphones, according to specialists at.Labs, which has the largest mental health database in the world.

One of the study’s authors, Tara Thiagarajan, told ABC News: “The earlier a child has a smartphone, the more this influences their emotional development and molds their worldview.

“Ideally, kids shouldn’t have smartphones until they’re 14 years old. When they do, parents should spend time teaching their kids how to use the Internet and outlining the risk of doing different things.”

The more time we can delay letting our children use social media, the better off we will be.

In my opinion, many families are becoming more inventive. flip phones for kids [are] possibly an alternative to landlines so that they can communicate without all the extra features that come with smartphones!
