Maema poised for a loan transfer to Tanzania
Mamelodi Sundowns are close to finalizing an agreement to loan Neo Maema to Simba SC in Tanzania.
This information comes from iDiski Times.
Siwelele FC is said to have shown interest in acquiring the midfielder, but Simba acted swiftly upon discovering his availability.
The 29-year-old signed with Masandawana from Royal AM in 2021, and his existing contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the upcoming season. He has secured four league titles in South Africa’s premier division with the club.
Maema faced challenges in securing game time last season, participating in 17 matches for Sundowns in total, which included seven matches in the Betway Premiership. He was not included in Sundowns’ FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
If the transfer is finalized, Maema will be joining his compatriot Fadlu Davids, the head coach of the team, in the capital of Tanzania.
Simba had an impressive 2024/25 season, making it to the final of the CAF Confederations Cup, though they were defeated 3-1 on aggregate by the Moroccan team RS Berkane. The club secured a second-place finish in the Tanzanian Premier League, trailing champions Young Africans by four points.
The relocation from his home country raises questions about Maema’s eligibility to represent South Africa in the forthcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, where only home-based players are permitted to participate.
