Tinubu Sends a Strong Delegation to Support the Super Falcons in the WAFCON Final
Tinubu has dispatched a powerful entourage to Morocco in order to support the Super Falcons at the WAFCON Finals.
A powerful team from the federal government has been dispatched by President Bola Tinubu to Rabat, Morocco, to support the Super Falcons in their win in the WAFCON Cup final later on Saturday.
Alhaji Shehu Dikko, the director-general of the National Sports Commission, and three female cabinet ministers are among the delegation, according to a statement released by President Tinubu on Saturday.
The President said the women’s football players have represented Nigeria with pride, honor, and strength over the past three weeks in the event, while wishing the country’s senior female team victory in the final match against the host nation, Morocco, in Rabat.
Part of what the President said to the Super Falcons was:
“The Super Falcons, my dearest,
“You are on the verge of history tonight when you play Morocco, the host country, in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
“Over the last three weeks, your performance at this event has been incredible. With pride, honor, and strength, you have represented our nation.
Both on and off the field, you have shown excellent sportsmanship.
Photographs of your visit to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana’s wounded Gabriela Salgado after the semi-final game thrilled me. That small gesture of kindness demonstrates our empathy, sisterly love, and common humanity—qualities that we Africans value greatly.
You are champions already if contests are won solely by statistics. They were undefeated in the group stages, won the knockout stages, and gave up just one goal in the semifinals. With this exception, you have won each of your last nine finals.
We are cheering you on and praying for your overwhelming victory tonight as you aim to attain the ultimate goal of winning a record ninth continental title on behalf of an appreciative country.
In order to encourage you to win and to show the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s government and people their complete support, I have dispatched a presidential team to the final in Rabat.
“Among others in the group are Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy; Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance; Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs; and Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission.
“For their unwavering support throughout this competition, I would like to thank the Nigerian Community in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, the Nigerian Mission in Morocco, the coaches, friends, and the families of the Super Falcons team.”
By God’s grace, you’ll finish strong. Strive for the ninth! Take the trophy home. Your fellow citizens, whether young and elderly, are cheering you on.
“In Abuja, I am excited to meet the officials, the team, and the trophy.”
