Von der Leyen of the EU said she will meet with Trump on Sunday to talk about trade

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, announced Friday that she will meet with Donald Trump, the president of the United States, in Scotland on Sunday to talk about economic relations between the two countries.

“Following a good call with @POTUS, we have agreed to meet in Scotland on Sunday to discuss transatlantic trade relations, and how we can keep them strong,” von der Leyen said in an article on X.

Trump claimed that Brussels wants to “make a deal very badly” and that there was a 50/50 chance, if not less, that the US and the EU would negotiate a trade agreement.

While EU members voted to sanction counter-tariffs on 93 billion euros ($109.01 billion) worth of U.S. goods in case the discussions do not work out, the European Commission indicated Thursday that a negotiated trade settlement with the United States remained within reach.
