A Russian passenger plane carrying 49 people crashed, but the wreckage was recovered
Russian rescuers have located the remains of a jet that vanished some 16 kilometers (10 miles) from its intended location.
Russian rescuers have found the wreckage of the Angara Airlines An-24 aircraft, which was traveling to the far-eastern Amur region with 43 passengers and six crew members.
According to emergency personnel, the plane disappeared from radar as it approached Tynda airfield after departing Blagoveshchensk near the Chinese border.
According to Vasily Orlov, regional governor of Amur, “all necessary resources” had been used to locate the aircraft. “There were five kids on board,” he said.
A Russian civil aviation helicopter observed a smoking fuselage from the aircraft shortly after, according to Russia’s emergency ministry.
The plane was discovered on a slope some 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Tynda, according to Amur’s civil defense center, according to the Tass news agency.
According to emergency services, rescuers were on their way to the location.
From Khabarovsk, in the extreme southeast of Russia, the An-24 aircraft had been traveling the last stretch of a trip.
