JAY-Z’s lawsuit against Tony Buzbee for extortion and defamation is dismissed

However, things might not be entirely over.

There has been a setback in JAY-Z’s crusade against Tony Buzbee. His lawsuit against the controversial lawyer for extortion and defamation was dismissed by a California judge.

According to Rolling Stone, Los Angeles County Judge Mark Epstein acknowledged in a recent 65-page order that he was not “wholly satisfied” with his choice. Epstein stated that he would eventually let the Court of Appeal to make the final decision after considering the “competing interests at play.” He concluded his ruling by advising people to “stay tuned” in spite of this decision.

Following the dismissal of the rape charges against him, which the Texas attorney was instrumental in bringing, Hov filed a lawsuit against Buzbee last year. According to the Brooklyn rapper, Buzbee knew he was acting on incorrect information, yet he still went ahead and filed the lawsuit. Additionally, he said that the 56-year-old lawyer had called him twice to demand money before including him in Diddy’s rape case, which Hov believes was because he had failed to provide the money.

The legal team for the “99 Problems” rapper was not happy with Judge Epstein’s ruling. His attorney, Alex Spiro, told Rolling Stone, “We are shocked and disappointed by this decision which turns on the misapplication of California law on the admissibility of the investigators’ statements.”

Notably, the judge explicitly claims that if he had allowed the statements into evidence, his ruling would have “change[d] dramatically” since they would have demonstrated “not only that Carter had nothing to do with any sexual assault on Doe, but that Buzbee knew it….” Consequently, “the court would come out the other way on this motion.” If someone can intentionally make the most egregious false accusations against an innocent person and get away with it on a technicality, what does that say about our legal system?

In contrast, Buzbee was overjoyed to be the beneficiary of this lawsuit’s dismissal. He wrote, “Yet another huge win!!” on X. The court dismissed John Doe’s action against me and The Buzbee Law Firm, which claimed extortion and defamation. The case had no validity at all, as I stated when it was filed. We will now pursue legal fees against John Doe for bringing the case, which was legally faulty.
