Chelsea acquired Pedro from Brighton for £60 million

Chelsea and Brighton striker Joao Pedro have reached an agreement for a deal worth up to £60 million.

After agreeing to a seven-year contract with Chelsea, the 23-year-old will travel from Brazil to the United States for a physical and to play for Enzo Maresca’s squad at the Club World Cup.

Pedro will be allowed to participate for Chelsea at the event because teams can register players from June 27 to July 3.

Pedro might make his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup quarterfinals since he might be eligible to play against Palmeiras on Friday in Philadelphia, with kickoff at 2 a.m. UK time on Saturday morning.

Pedro’s move aligns with Chelsea’s favorable connection with Brighton and Brighton’s sell-on clause.

The Blues view Pedro as a flexible forward who can play as a No. 9 or on the front line.

Newcastle was also interested in Pedro; last week, their nearly £50 million deal was rejected.

According to reports, Pedro wanted to play only for Chelsea.

After selling Pedro to Brighton for £35 million in 2023, Watford will get 20% of the proceeds from this deal.
