Trump said that TikTok would reveal its U.S. buyer in “about two weeks”

Trump suggests a significant TikTok acquisition, subject to Chinese consent.

A “group of very wealthy people” is prepared to purchase TikTok’s U.S. operations, Donald Trump stated on Sunday on Fox News. He acknowledged the necessity for China’s approval, which he is certain President Xi Jinping will provide, and pledged to identify them in “about two weeks.”

Trump is not new to this. ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, is required by U.S. law to sell or face a statewide closure, with an initial deadline of January 19. Citing national security concerns, Trump has previously delayed deadlines three times, most recently to September 17th. He has acknowledged the platform’s appeal, particularly among younger voters.

Earlier plans to turn TikTok into a joint venture based in the United States, maybe co-owned by domestic investors, are echoed in the sale approach. Previously, names like Elon Musk or Larry Ellison were mentioned, but Trump is now offering a larger ownership group.

Once Trump identifies the enigmatic purchasers, expect more information. Should it be accepted, a U.S.-owned TikTok might change the course of the platform’s history while preserving it for its 170 million American users.
