Reports: F. Bucks Bobby Portis accepts a $44 million, three-year contract

Several media outlets reported on Sunday that Bobby Portis, a forward with the Milwaukee Bucks, had declined his player option and would sign a three-year, $44 million contract to remain with the organization.

Portis, 30, had until Sunday to make a decision regarding the $13.4 million player option. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel stated that the new contract contains a player option for the final 2027–2028 season.

During the NBA’s 25-game unpaid suspension for breaking the league’s anti-drug policy, Portis averaged 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in just 49 games (seven starts) during the previous season.

Portis tested positive for the narcotic Tramadol, which is used to treat severe pain in adults, according to the NBA. According to Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, Portis’ representative, his client mistook Tramadol for Toradol, an authorized painkiller, according to ESPN.

During his five seasons in Milwaukee, Portis averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 339 regular-season games (99 starts). In 2023 and 2024, he was chosen third for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award, demonstrating his worth as a reserve. Additionally, he was a part of the 2021 Bucks league championship team.

Portis has played in 654 regular-season games (153 starts) for the Chicago Bulls (2015–19), Washington Wizards (2019), New York Knicks (2019–20), and Bucks (2020–present) with averages of 12.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
