Morata faces a death threat from a Malaga-arrested teenager

A 19-year-old boy was taken into custody after threatening to kill Alvaro Morata and his kids after Spain lost to Portugal in the Nations League final.

Alvaro Morata was the target of a flurry of hateful social media posts after he missed a vital penalty during the shootout.

L’Équipe claims that the young man first went to a Malaga police station and claimed that his account had been compromised. Officers soon discovered inconsistencies in his account, however. They found evidence after confiscating his phone that he was, in fact, the creator of the threatening posts.

In a statement, the Spanish police condemned the increasing acceptance of such conduct in sports and blamed the anonymity and speed of social media for fostering such abuse.
