The New Showmax Drama “Reckless” Addresses Legacy, Loss, and Family

Reckless is the newest drama series from Kenya, and it will debut exclusively on Showmax on June 23. Get ready for an exciting journey filled with drama, danger, and family legacy.

The Sonoko brothers’ life are explored in depth in Reckless, which was produced by Live Eye Limited. Their existence is completely upended following a catastrophic event that occurs during an illegal street race.

The brothers are forced to leave behind their affluent lives in the city and relocate to a remote town, where they must deal with their troubled past, tough new circumstances, and the tremendous pressure to live up to their family name.

Get to know the Powerhouse Cast and the Sonokos:

Pete Sonoko, played by Brian Abajah (Single Kiasi), is a 23-year-old wealthy young man who is rife with conceit and entitlement. Pete struggles to find purpose and humility, and his journey is one of reckoning.

The younger, more carefree sibling, Mika Sonoko, is portrayed by Sammy Okore (Machachari). Mika, who is eighteen, is uninterested in responsibility and is all about parties and attractive faces. Because of their disagreements over ideals, aspirations, and love, his tense relationship with Pete heightens the drama.

Malooned’s character, Godfrey Odhiambo, plays the patriarch of the family, Edward Sonoko. Edward’s journey from poverty to wealth is truly remarkable, but his sons’ careless decisions could destroy everything he has worked so hard to achieve.

The emotionally aloof mother of the boys, Melinda Sonoko, is played by Georgina Mbira in Our Perfect Wedding. Her strict, stern manner only serves to deepen the division within the already-shattered family.

There are new forces at work in the village:

Ella, a fiercely independent indigenous girl introduced by Ntinyari Mburukua, clashes with the pampered Sonoko boys right away. She is not impressed because she can see through their charm.

Debbie, played by Ann Muli (The Chocolate Empire), is Ella’s cunning opponent who would stop at nothing to get Pete’s attention.

The future of the Sonokos is seriously threatened by the cunning ways of James, played by Eddie Mbugua (Igiza).

Agatha, played by Joyce Musoke (Wise Woman), is James’ devoted but long-suffering wife who remains silent despite her husband’s increasingly sinister behavior.

As Ziki, Ella’s younger sister, Wanjiru Marima gives the narrative heart by providing a window into the hardships and innocence of country life.

Joan Kenduywa, Benard Marie, Mavoko Mbatha, Brian Ogutu, Susan Karani, Nyawira Gichuhi, Zeraya Ramtu, Brian Furaha (Somewhere in Kole), Alex Mwangi (Neema), and Kevin Mbayagi are also part of the ensemble cast.

Jim Malakwen (Faithless, Igiza) is the chief writer of Reckless, which is directed by the dynamic team of Carol Ochieng (Selina, Salem), Gilbert Lukalia (Kam U Stay, A Merry X-Mess), and Isaya Evans (Second Family, Nilichoma). Under the creative direction of Auka Gecheo and Eddah Kiruhi, this series offers compelling narratives, nuanced characters, and striking images.
